2010 Johnny Winston, Jr. Streetball & Block Party
Welcome to the 2010 Johnny Winston, Jr. Streetball & Block Party - Slam & Jam for Peace website. This event, now in its tenth year features a highly competitive adult men's team basketball tournament, youth drill team competition, youth and family activities, music, entertainment and food.
For many years, I helped coordinate the South Madison Block Party held at Penn Park annually. Depending on the year, I coordinated the entertainment stage, youth games tent and most recently the basketball tournament. When the South Madison Neighborhood Center became the Boys and Girls Club of Dane County, the "Block Party" no longer became a fundraiser or community event. However, the community still looked forward to an event that allows it to come together and associate with the residents in the local neighborhoods. Such events are important in building a collective identity and sense of pride for various Madison residents. It is in keeping with the tradition of the "Block Party" that I continue to organize the "Johnny Winston, Jr. Streetball & Block Party - Slam and Jam for Peace."
